The IMPACT framework: six qualities, Imagination, Memorable, Passionate, Awareness, Consideration, and Transformational, that turn everyday effort into real influence.
We throw the word impact around a lot. We say we want to make one, leave one, be one. But impact is not an accident, and it is not a personality trait you are either born with or without. It is a set of habits, six of them, that you can practice on purpose. I call them the IMPACT qualities, and together they turn ordinary effort into lasting influence.
Impact players do not wait for the map to be handed to them. They imagine what does not yet exist and then work backward to build it. Creativity here is not about being artistic; it is about refusing to accept that the current way is the only way. When you train yourself to ask what if instead of what is, you start solving problems other people have quietly agreed to live with.
People remember how you made them feel long after they forget what you said. Being memorable is not about being the loudest voice in the room, it is about being intentional with your words, your presence, and your follow through, so that every interaction leaves something behind. Decide in advance what you want people to walk away with, then live it consistently enough that it becomes the thing they associate with your name.
Passion is contagious, and so is its absence. When you genuinely care about the work and the people it serves, others feel permission to care too. Being on fire does not mean being frantic or burned out; it means your energy has a clear source and a clear direction. Protect that fire by staying connected to why you started, because a team will forgive almost anything except a leader who has stopped believing in the mission.
Two kinds of awareness separate impact players from everyone else. Self-awareness is knowing your patterns, your triggers, and the effect you have on a room before anyone has to tell you. Situational awareness is reading what the moment actually needs rather than what you planned to give it. Together they keep you from being the smartest person in the room who still somehow gets it wrong.
Consideration is awareness turned into action. It is the small, deliberate choice to account for other people, their time, their dignity, their context, even when it would be easier not to. Considerate leaders build trust faster than merely talented ones, because people can feel when they are treated as a means to an end versus a person who matters. Over time, how you make people feel becomes your reputation.
The final quality is the sum of the others. A transformational leader does not just improve numbers; they leave people and situations better than they found them. Notice the word maturing, though. You cannot lead others through a change you are unwilling to undergo yourself. The most powerful change agents are still students, still adjusting, still growing, which is exactly why people trust them to lead the way forward.
You do not need permission or a title to start living these qualities. Pick one, imagination, intention, passion, awareness, consideration, or transformation, and practice it deliberately this week. Impact is not a single moment; it is the slow, compounding result of showing up as the kind of person others want to follow. Become that person on purpose, and the influence takes care of itself.
